Pilates is having a day in the sun, and the market is becoming more saturated with Pilates studios of all shapes and sizes. Recent trends have encouraged and promoted many fitness professionals offering "Pilates" in many forms. Watch us in this video clip HERE on Your Carolina explaining what to look for
✅ Instructor Qualifications & Certifications
• Teachers hold recognized Pilates certifications from reputable programs (e.g., PEAK, STOTT, Balanced Body, PMA/NPCP, Classical Pilates specific) *Do not feel shy asking to see these certifications (you would do the same thing with any professional service provider)
• Instructors have comprehensive training (often 500+ hours) including anatomy, injury modifications, and all Pilates apparatus and equipment — not just a quick weekend course on the reformer
• Continuing education is prioritized to keep skills current
✅ Quality of Instruction
• Small class sizes up to 12 allow for personalized attention and safe cueing
• Clear, precise verbal and visual instruction with hands-on guidance (when appropriate)
• Emphasis on alignment and correct biomechanics, not just “getting through the workout”
• Modifications are readily offered for different bodies, injuries, and abilities
✅ Alignment & Safety Focus
• Consistent warm-up and cool-down to protect joints and muscles
• Teachers cue breath patterns, spinal articulation, and core engagement correctly
• Safety checks on equipment and form throughout class
✅ Space & Equipment
• Clean, well-maintained reformers and apparatus from reputable brands
• Adequate space between machines to move freely and avoid feeling cramped
• Studio is bright, ventilated, and inviting, creating an uplifting energy
✅ Environment & Culture
• A welcoming, non-intimidating atmosphere for all ages and abilities
• Professional, punctual, and respectful staff
• Feels like a place where you want to spend time — music, lighting, and tone match the studio culture
✅ Community & Support
• Instructors and clients know each other’s names and celebrate progress together
• Opportunities for connection — workshops, events, or casual conversations before/after class
• A sense of belonging that motivates consistency
✅ Results & Personal Growth
• Clients feel stronger, more mobile, and more confident over time
• The studio fosters mind-body awareness and presence, not just physical fitness
• Focus on long-term health and posture, not quick fixes
